AVIOT recently introduced its latest True Wireless Stereo (TWS), the AVIOT TE-D01i in Singapore. Released in Japan on the 16th of May 2020, the AVIOT TE-D01i is a TWS exclusively designed for the pink-collar market, thoroughly researched based on data collected from over 100 female earphone users in Japan.
Design and Build
Inspired by macarons, the AVIOT TE-D01i sports a charging case which not only mimics the appearance of the french treat but also incorporates a makeup mirror at the back of the top cover. The detail, however, does not stop there; the AVIOT TE-D01i is available in pastel colours of Mint Green, Pink, and Snow White. Colours that one would resonate with macarons.
The charging case weighs in at about 56 grams with dimensions spanning a diameter of about 60.9 mm and a height of 35.6 mm. The TWS set is about 68.2 grams light, with each earbuds registering at about 6.1 grams each.
A dual award winner of Japan’s prestigious Visual Grand Prix (VGP) Award in 2020, the AVIOT TE-D01i is lauded by the judging panel and was awarded the Concept Award (コンセプト大賞) on top of the Gold Award (金賞). The concept award recognises the TWS as a carefully crafted product that meets the needs of females particularly in the realisation of an ergonomically shaped design not only to fit the small ears of the intended audience but also as a stylish accessory where the TWS could match one’s attire or mood of the day with the use of a “Make Up Chip.”
The judging panel also cited that despite the design, they do not feel that there was any compromise to the sound quality, where the AVIOT TE-D01i portrays a three-dimensional audio output with a sense of depth as justification for the Gold Award, the highest accolade for its category. There was also a special mention by the judging panel of “Ambient Sound Capture,” a new function that allows one to listen to surrounding sounds captured by an ambient microphone without having to remove the earbuds which we will elaborate more under usability.
The brand thoughtfully prepared a collection of five pairs of different “Make Up Chips” for each colour. The standard package of the AVIOT TE-D01i includes the two pairs of “Make Up Chips” comprising of a flower pattern and a marble pattern designed by renowned Japanese Manga artist and illustrator, Hisashi Eguchi. The other three pairs of “Make Up Chips” comprising of a more elaborate flower pattern, a striped pattern, and matte solid colour design are packaged in a “Make Up Chips” set, to be sold separately.
Similar to recent models from AVIOT, which include the AVIOT TE-D01g, I reviewed last year, the brand implemented the Qualcomm QCC3020 on the AVIOT TE-D01i. As explained previously, the QCC3020 is preferred over the QCC3026 due to its lower yield loss as it is available in the Very Thin Profile Fine Pitch Ball Grid Array (VFBGA) package. It maintains an ultra-small form factor, optimised for Qualcomm TrueWireless Stereo, which supports the delivery of audio to both left and right earphones with a smooth pairing experience where one can pair with one earbud, and the other will automatically initiate to pair. The Bluetooth System on Chip (SoC) also supports Bluetooth 5 and 24-bit audio interfaces.
Out of the box, the AVIOT TE-D01i is fitted with the pair flower pattern “Make Up Chips,” and a pair of S sized silicone ear tips. Included in the standard package, one will find a pair of marble pattern “Make Up Chips,” two pairs of standard silicone ear tips (SS and M), two pairs of urethane foam ear tips (S and M), a USB-A to USB-C cable for charging purposes, a reversible pouch as well as the user manual and warranty registration card in Japanese.
