Effect Audio (EA) today announced its new series of Horus earphone cables, which include Horus X, Horus Jumbo, Horus OCTA, as well as an updated variant of Horus.
An evergreen member of EA’s Hall of Fame, Horus, which was released in September 2017, is the culmination of Effect Audio’s entirety of experience in cable craftmanship. Touted as one of the most beautiful works from Effect Audio, the Hall of Famer aims to pushes the extremities and limitations of cable design. In July 2018, EA announced the Horus 8 upgrade program, where users of the 4-wire variant were offered an upgrade to the 8-wire Horus 8.
According to Egyptian Mythology, Horus is one of the most significant deities of Egyptian gods who served multiple functions, most notably the protector of the rule of Egypt, as such Egyptians regarded the pharaoh as the living Horus. Often used as a charm in Egypt, the Eye of Horus is an ancient Egyptian symbol of protection, royal power, and good health.
Horus X
In the audio cable arena, the use of gold-plating is not uncommon; EA has also researched and introduced many cables that feature gold-plating. One could experience EA’s past expertise in gold-plating through products such as our latest Flagship Code 51, Horus, Mars, and other limited-edition releases.
On the Horus X, EA utilised two different variants of Gold-Plated UP-OCC silver materials. Making such wires is not easy; the durability of Gold-Plating, the flatness of the surface, as well as the perfection of the texture, are all reliant on the gold-plating techniques implemented during the manufacturing process. As a result, as the difficulty of manufacturing increases, the resultant yield is also lower.
However, this is precisely due to the difficulty of manufacturing that EA spent many years relentlessly accumulating experience through research and practical implementations. For example, the gold and silver alloy material utilised on the latest Flagship Code 51 was developed over several years by the EA team, achieved through research and development based on the “Multi-Sized Stranding and Ultra-High Strand Counts” designs which were previously implemented on Mars and Horus.
An integral part of the flagship products, the Gold-Plated advantage materials have on the sense of hearing, is prominent, providing dynamism and control, vital for performance regardless of whether it is in the aspect of low-end or high-end frequencies. Cables using UP-OCC techniques can significantly reduce the electrical resistance of the conductor as well as eliminate non-crystal boundaries, allowing sound signals to flow without resistance and loss of fidelity.

Horus Jumbo
Horus Jumbo is the east egg during the product announcement, limited to a global release of 10 units.
In-line with EA’s frequent release of limited release cables, such releases are limited in quantity and enhances collectibility. Horus Jumbo utilises UP-OCC Gold-Plated Silver material, similar to that of Horus, however, with a diameter of 22 AWG. This translates into a diameter that is 1.6 times as well as a cross-sectional area that is 2.5 of the Horus.
Horus Jumbo will provide a listening experience with a soundstage of higher density and more details. This also means more stringent requirements in the manufacturing of the cable, particularly in the area of soldering, which is a challenge for handcrafted wires.
In the sense of listening, Horus Jumbo is a very balanced cable, it exhibits strong performances and is equally matched across the frequencies from the lows to the mids and the highs. The highs and lows present outstanding extensions with the lows exhibiting depth, coupled with a mid that is fluid. When compared to Horus, the Horus Jumbo shows significant enhancements to the low-end.
