Sporting AKM’s AK4376A DAC chip, the low-power consumption chip is one of the key components which allowed the DAP to achieve more than 24 hours of playback time on a single charge.

FiiO M3K Portable Hi-Res Lossless Player

Introduced in CES 2016, the AK4376A is a relatively new 32-bit DAC chip with an integrated headphone amplifier. According to the datasheet from AKM, the AK4376A achieves a THD+N of -106dB and an SNR of 125dB.

The M3K has a signal to noise ratio of 88dB @ 1kHz on its 3.5mm single-ended output, with an output power of 42mW @ 16Ω and 25mW @ 32Ω. The output is adequate to power most earphones or IEMs which you would typically pair with an entry-level player.

Sporting a neutral sounding signature with a slight hint of warmth. Its soundstage is excellent, while not expansive, there is enough width and reasonable height which provides for proper imaging of vocals and instruments, translating into a stage presence which one can appreciate.

The M3K lacks depth on the low-end and decay. Having said that, the bass is still present and punchy, it is just missing the dimension, decay and extensions. Taking into account the product positioning, I will just keep my wishlist in check.

Mid-range is where the M3K establishes itself firmly as an entry-level player, it offers an extremely balanced presentation. Mid-range fidelity on the M3K is amongst the best if not the best I have heard on an entry-level offering.

The treble on the M3K is extremely musical and is a joy to listen to, there is a right amount of control in the tuning which allows it to shine alongside the mids and the lows. Similar to the lows, it lacks decay and extensions.
