Today, Chinese audio specialist FiiO released its latest wired in-ear proposition, the FA7S, successor to the four Balanced Armature (BA) FA7, first introduced in December 2018.
The FA7S is equipped with six BA drivers and feature a three-pair design configuration, with each pair of BA drivers handling the low, mid and high-frequency ranges, respectively. The low and high-frequency pair of BA drivers are made by Knowles, while the mid-frequency pair of BA drivers is a custom driver exclusively made for FiiO.
If one hasn’t realised, the FiiO FA series of In-Ear Monitors (IEMs) exclusively sports the use of BAs. In addition, the latest offering on the FA series also sees a new three-way crossover implemented in a 2:2:2 arrangement.
The drivers and crossover are encased in a stainless steel shell, injection moulded through a powder metallurgy process that includes a 1000°С sintering process. The faceplate is processed through a five-axis CNC machine with every unit hand-polished to achieve a mirror-like finish. The medical-grade 316L stainless steel enclosure then goes through a Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) coating process to provide a super-hard finish for durability.
Elsewhere, the angled MMCX connectors with blue and red indicators promise a superior connection between the IEMs and the cable. In addition, the FA7S is bundled with a high purity Silver-Plated Copper (SPC) cable featuring an interchangeable audio jack system licensed from FABRILOUS AUDIO LIMITED.
Visually, the FA7S adopts the company’s third-generation industrial design approach, which first appeared on the FD5 with additional distinct elements, including the Y-shaped elements reminiscent of windmills, the 120° angle and the tri-circular faceplate.
Similar to the company’s other mid-range offerings, the IEMs are bundled with 13 pairs of ear tips made up of three pairs of balanced silicone ear tips, three pairs of bass silicone ear tips, three pairs of vocals silicone ear tips, three pairs of foam tips and one pair of dual-flange ear tips. Other accessories in the package include a waterproof carrying case, a magnetic cable clip, a cleaning brush, a stainless steel MMCX removal tool, and the 2.5 mm and the 4.4 mm interchangeable audio plug.
Available in silver and black, the FiiO FA7S is priced at USD 339.95 and will be available in October from FiiO and its authorised dealers worldwide.
