Huawei announces Mate 20 X

Touted as “One More Big Thing” towards the end of Huawei’s Meet the #HUAWEIMate20 Live at the ExCeL Centre in London today. The announcement of the Mate 20 X came as a surprise to many who were expecting the usual refresh in the form of Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 RS.

A new member of the Mate 20 lineup, the Mate 20 X features an ultra-large 7.2-inch OLED display, eclipsing the Samsung Note 9 which measures in at 6.4-inch and is one of the largest flagship smartphones in the market. The Mate 20 X sports a stylus, Huawei’s M-Pen which aids usability, though the company claims that the Mate 20 X is comfortable for usage with one-hand.

Everything about the Mate 20 X is massive, Huawei has included for the first time, the “Super-Bass Stereo Speaker System”. The stereophonic sound system features dual symmetrical speakers at both ends of the device. Equipped with a super high dynamic range of up to 40db, the “Super-Bass Stereo Speaker System” is said to render every sound from bass to treble with astounding clarity, richness, and depth for a fully immersive audio experience. According to the company, the system exhibits 120% stronger bass than the iPhone Xs Max. The Mate 20 X also sees the return of the 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Mate 20 X has a few things in common with the other offerings in the Mate 20 lineup, including a triple-lens camera with 40-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens, it also runs on Huawei’s 7nm Kirin 980 chip with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

The Mate 20 X goes on sale on the 26th of October for 899 euros and is available in two colours: Midnight Blue and Phantom Silver.
