Sennheiser has announced the release of the HD 800 S Anniversary Edition. A collector’s edition release by the iconic German audio manufacturer, in celebration of the 75 years that they have helped to shape the audio industry through its innovative products and audio solutions.

The HD 800 S Anniversary Edition is handcrafted at the company’s headquarters in Wedemark, Germany. It was shared with Porta-Fi that glass-fiber strengthened plastic, a material valued in the aerospace industry, is used for the headphones’ housing, making them remarkably durable yet lightweight. The ear-pads are made from a soft vegan velour material for optimal wearing comfort. The exclusive matte gold yoke, decor ring, and shell ring, that are unique to the HD 800 S Anniversary Edition bestowed a look of elegance that is every bit as exceptional it sounds. Each of the 750 units in the collector’s edition is unique, with its serial number laser-engraved on the headband.

The HD 800 S’s frequency range of 4 to 51,000 Hz is one of the key aspects that has made the headphones a popular choice amongst audiophiles and “are a testament to this passion that has been driving us for 75 years”, according to co-CEO, Daniel Sennheiser. The other being the diaphragm of the headphones’ 56 mm transducer is made using the company’s patented duofol-transducer material to ensure exact music reproduction and reduction of resonances, keeping total harmonic distortion to less than 0.02 percent.

To ensure that even the most delicate nuances of music remain audible across the entire frequency range on the HD 800 S, the company implemented an innovative absorber technology that reduces the so-called “masking effect.” An acoustic phenomenon that arises as the human ear is unable to perceive higher-pitched sounds that have low-volumes. In contrast, significantly louder sounds in a lower frequency range occur. The patented technology neutralises the energy of the resonances, thus preventing any unwanted peaks in the frequency response.

The circum-aural earcups were developed with meticulous attention to detail as well, as the design directs the sound waves to the ears at a slight angle, thus creating an impressively natural and spatial sound experience.

The Sennheiser HD 800 S Anniversary Edition retails for EUR 1,599 / GBP 1,399 / SGD 2,539 / USD 1,699.95 and will be available from 22nd September 2020.

In Singapore, the HD 800 S Anniversary Edition will be available at Sennheiser’s brand stores at Marina Square and Marina Bay Sands, the Sennheiser Experience Centre located at Connect-IT @ 313 Orchard and the Sennheiser Singapore Online Store.
