Sony Electronics has introduced the NW-WM1ZM2 and NW-WM1AM2. The pair of premium music players are positioned to set a new benchmark for Sony’s award-winning Signature series by offering an exquisite listening experience in an ultra-premium design.
Throughout the history of Sony’s premium music players, audio mastery has been accomplished through a combination of meticulous assembly of exception components. The NW-WM1ZM2 and NW-WM1AM2 continue this philosophy.
The NW-WM1ZM2 sports a 99.99% (4N) purity Gold-plated Oxygen-Free Copper (OFC) chassis, allowing it to release a stronger digital ground and higher rigidity, enabling clear, expansive sound where one could experience each instrument as if it was a live performance. The NW-WM1AM2, on the other hand, uses an aluminium alloy chassis that provides high rigidity that is resistive to electrical noise and other interference, allowing high-quality sound with stability.
Taking inspiration from the ground-breaking DMP-Z1, the pair of music players feature an even stronger power supply than their predecessor models, both in the analogue and digital block. In addition, the NW-WM1ZM2 and NW-WM1AM2 have upgraded fine-tuned capacitors, including various FT CAP3 (high polymer) capacitors and a large solid high polymer capacitor that offers large capacitance and resistance. Coupled with an OFC milled block covering the digital block, the design enables both music players to deliver music from a silent background.
Both players feature the S-Master™ HX digital amplifier technology independently developed for Walkman®. With the use of high-quality lead-free solder, the full digital amplifier further creates a rich and full-bodied sound that allows the NW-WM1ZM2 and NW-WM1AM2 to deliver faithful sound reproduction.
A pair of crystal oscillators and a fine sound register have been precisely placed within each Walkman® to realize both players’ sonic capabilities. In addition, reflow solder containing gold is used to provide significant overall improved sound localization and wider sound space.
On the NW-WM1ZM2, Sony has selected a quality KIMBER KABLE® to run from the amplifier base to the balanced headphone jack, similar to the renowned DMP-Z1. This carefully selected component aids in the transmission of high-quality audio signals. A low-resistance OFC cable that offers low distortion and superior channel separation is used on the NW-WM1AM2.
Integrated within both players is a DSD Remastering Engine where Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) audio signals are resampled as 11.2 MHz Direct Stream Digital (DSD). In addition, DSEE Ultimate™ is also available on both the NW-WM1ZM2 and the NW-WM1AM2, allowing one to upscale compressed music files in real-time, restoring acoustic subtleties and dynamic range to experience a richer and more complete listening experience.
The NW-WM1ZM2 and NW-WM1AM2 run on Android™ 11 and is Wi-Fi compatible. Together, they allow one to stream music from one’s favourite streaming service or connect to a PC wirelessly to download tracks and playlists from one’s collection.
Both music players sport a larger 5.0-inch High-Definition (HD) touchscreen that is smooth and responsive for an optimized user experience. In addition, one can also personalize the home display on the Walkman® Home Screen. The NW-WM1ZM2 offers 256GB of integrated memory and a microSD card slot, while the NW-WM1AM2 provides 128GB of integrated memory and a microSD card slot. Both models also feature a USB Type-C® port, allowing fast music file transfer, easy connectivity with various devices and charging.
Battery-wise, one can immerse up to 40 hours of non-stop 96kHz FLAC High-Resolution Audio playback.
Sony’s products are designed to be stylish and with the environment in mind. Zero plastic is used in the packaging material for the NW-WM1ZM2 and NW-WM1AM2, reflecting Sony’s commitment to reducing the impact of its products and practices.
The NW-WM1ZM2 and NW-WM1AM2 will be available in Singapore from April 2022 at a recommended retail price of SGD 4,999 for the NW-WM1ZM2 and SGD 1,899 for the NW-WM1AM2 through Sony Stores, authorised dealers and Sony Store online. In addition, preorder customers will receive a limited-edition Sony Engineer Memorabilia.
