Vision Ears (VE) is a German company based in the heart of Cologne, the largest city on the River Rhine. Founded in 2013 by Marcel Schoenen and Amin Karimpour following Marcel Schoenen’s split with Felix Reinsch both of whom were partners at Compact Monitors. Vision Ears started as a Custom In-Ear Monitor (CIEM) manufacturer and has a diverse line-up of CIEMs ranging from the entry-level VE2 to the Flagship ELYSIUM. The company also introduced its first Universal In-Ear Monitor (UIEM) offering, the ERLKöNIG in 2018.
This year, the company announced the availability of ELYSIUM as a UIEM offering as well as the introduction of a new Exclusive Vision Ears (EVE) product line. With EVE20, a 6-driver design becoming the debutant model of the new line. The EVE concept revolves around a limited edition UIEM offering that is limited in number within the year of its introduction with a serial number engraved on the shell of the IEMs. Unrestricted is the driver count of the design, as well as the price of future offerings under the EVE line.
Design and Build
Shelled in transparent olive-coloured resin, the VE EVE20 sports a transparent red-coloured face-plate which commemorates the “RED Demo” and probably a tribute to Oliver, the chief sound designer of Vision Ears.
The EVE20 is a 6-driver balanced armature (BA) monitor with the following driver configuration: 2 BA drivers for the low-end, 2 BA drivers for mid-range, and 2 BA drivers for high-end. The build quality from VE as always is excellent, which is expected of an established German CIEM manufacturer. With the EVE20, one would get solid shells with the company’s legendary fit for UIEM with a flawless finish. Taking a closer look at the insides of the transparent shell, one can’t help but appreciate the neatness of the wiring and driver placement. Only one word comes to mind: Meticulous.
Size-wise, the EVE20 is probably one of the smallest in size for a 6 BA driver UIEM and is fitted with SpinFit ear-tips. Weighing in at just about 5.2 grams, the lightness of the monitor, coupled with its fit and size makes the EVE20 extremely comfortable to wear, even over prolonged periods.
The EVE20 comes with a standard 4-wire Silver-Plated Copper (SPC) cable in black with a 3.5 mm single-ended termination. The 2-pin connectors bear a red dot for right and a blue dot for left, to allow one to connect to the respective monitors correctly.
[Update 12 May 2020] The retail package arrived shrink-wrapped in a box with a spot UV interweaving-textured exterior, opening the box. A matte black overlay greets one with the combination of the EVE logo embossed and the wordings “Exclusive Vision Ears” debossed at the centre finished with Spot UV. Removing the overlay, one would discover a VE Round Metal Case (black) to the left and a document jacket to the right. The metal case is where one would find a pair of serialised EVE20 monitors, three pairs of SpinFit ear-tips, and a standard 3.5mm single-ended stock cable in black and in the document jacket, an instruction manual, a cleaning cloth, nozzle mesh replacement and a congratulatory note from the Vision Ears team. Hidden behind the document jacket are the VE In-Ear Cleaner and the Cerumenpen for cleaning the monitors as well as a 3.5mm to 6.35mm stereo adapter.
